ICYMI: Nothing new, tweets, Daft Punk
Next week starts Women’s History Month. Mine the link for intranet, newsletter, and social media material.
In case you missed it…
1. A Non-Update Update
When will office workers return?
It’s complicated.
Each week internal comms pros take to message boards, Slack channels, and social media to ask: Has anyone finalized a return-to-office plan and policy? Can you share the language? Crickets.
The pendulum is swinging. At first, employees loved the idea of working from home, but the novelty, screen fatigue, and winter blues have set in. Now many are yearning to get back to the office and to speak with colleagues IRL.
What’s more, WFH has led to increased stress. “A study of 1,500 workers in 46 countries by the Harvard Business Review found that 85% said their well-being had declined and 55% felt they had not been able to balance their work and home lives.” (The Economist)
Burnout has increased 4% year-over-year, according to a survey from Glint.
Women were 20% more likely to say they experienced an "overwhelming workload" than men.
The good news, however, according to the same survey:
73% of organizations saw increases in employees reporting a sense of belonging at their organizations.
67% of companies saw an increase in their employees' confidence in leadership.
Stay tuned next week for when nobody will have made the first move…
2. 😬
My tweet expressing the anxiety of sending all-employee emails on behalf of an exec elicited some amusing responses, especially the one from Jill Spurr:
Laugh/Cry: Bananatag’s Kyla Sims (@krositabanana) alerted me to a blog bost we can all relate to: 10 Embarrassing All-Staff Emails That We’ve All Sent.

3. Clubhouse, Explained
You’re not using Clubhouse for employee communications now, but maybe someday you will. Get a jump on understanding the booming/trendy audio-first social platform now, so you’ll be ready to capitalize when it’s opened to the masses.
Why get to know Clubhouse? Chances are you’re using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and LinkedIn to either in/directly communicate with employees or to ask your employees to promote your organization on those platforms. Clubhouse may very well be your next Twitter.

4. All Good Things…
The legendary techno-disco-future-retro duo Daft Punk announced their breakup this week, in true Daft Punk fashion. Their album, Random Access Memories, is one of my top-10 favorite albums of all time. It’s a work of genius.
Let’s not mourn the breakup but instead lose ourselves to dance.
