4 comms things and one non-comm thing you might have missed
🚨 61% of Trump voters say they trust their employer's CEO. That compares to 28% who trust government leaders and 21% who trust journalists, according to data from Edelman's annual Trust Barometer.

1. Are Employees Suffering From Click Fatigue?
You’ve heard of “Zoom fatigue,” but what about “click fatigue”? Michael DesRochers, CEO of PoliteMail, says “employees are processing twice as many emails during the pandemic than before. With volumes way up, click rates have declined.”
Reviewing PoliteMail’s database of 1.2 billion internal comms emails, DesRochers shows that click rates have declined 5% year over year. Why?
The number of links sent via email spiked in March and April (the peak of the pandemic in the U.S.) and has remained 50% higher than last year.
Bottom line: Employees are receiving significantly more email and many more links to click.
2. Best Online Survey Tools
After assessing 80 platforms, Digital.com picked these as the best online survey tools for 2021:
Alchemer | Betterworks Engage | FormAssembly | Google Forms | LimeSurvey | QuestionPro | Snap Surveys | SoGoSurvey | Survey Anyplace | SurveyMonkey | Survey Nuts | SurveyPlanet | SurveyLegend | Typeform | Zoho Survey
I have used the services in bold and recommend them.
Bonus: Banatag’s pulse survey planning templates.
3. Press Yellow for Happy
The Moodbeam is a wearable device that lets your boss know whether you are happy or sad. The gadget, which links to a mobile phone app and web interface, has two buttons, one yellow and one blue. The idea is that you press the yellow one if you are feeling happy, and the blue one if you are sad.
Good point: “With many children, especially teenagers, likely to balk at the idea of having to press a button on a wristband to let their parents know how they are doing, how probable is it that employees would be willing to do the same for their boss?”

4. Work Better, Not Harder
Remember when the pandemic started and you were bombarded with WFH tips? It’s been what, 11 months? Time to take a fresh look at your habits and routines to see what you can do to make the workday more productive and polished. The Boston Globe has four suggestions:
Re-structure your work hours
Recognize your work style
Cut your emails in half
Brush up on video conferencing etiquette
5. How to Build a Log Cabin Without Saying a Word
We never hear the sound of the protagonist’s voice. For nearly two hours it’s just birds, breezes, raindrops, hammering, sawing, and lots (and lots) of wood being chopped. During the course of the video we see both the cabin and the silent hero’s muscles grow. Suddenly how to build a rock foundation, plane, chink, hew, carve, and sharpen tools is riveting.
Above all this slow, quiet build is a welcome respite from the overly-loud productions currently streaming on Netflix and HBO Max. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and get inspired.
